Zero Waste
Zero Waste was emphasized at the G20 Leaders Summit.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a press conference and made statements after the G20 Leaders Summit held in New Delhi, the capital of India.
Reminding that the theme of this year's summit is "One World, One Family and One Future", President Erdoğan stated that they discussed the environmental problems faced by the planet in the first of the summit sessions.
President Erdoğan explained that the effects of climate change, loss of biodiversity and the triple planetary crisis are being felt more and more, and that they have seen the devastating consequences of this in a wide range of areas, from forest fires to floods, from drought to warming.
“WE ARE TAKING SIGNIFICANT STEPS IN NUCLEAR AND HYDROGEN INVESTMENTS”
President Erdoğan emphasized that Turkey’s responsibility in greenhouse gas emissions is relatively low. Despite this, he stated that Turkey is taking responsibility in this vital issue concerning the shared future of the world and humanity.
President Erdoğan highlighted that Turkey is among the countries making the most meaningful contributions to the Paris Climate Agreement with the goals of "2053 net zero emissions" and "green development," saying: “We are taking significant steps in both renewable energy and nuclear and hydrogen investments. In terms of renewable installed capacity, we rank 5th in Europe and 12th in the world. Our initiatives in energy efficiency and renewable energy have prevented annual greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 90 million tons of carbon. In line with our '2053 net zero emissions' target, we have doubled our emissions reduction goal for 2030. We are among the leading countries in the world in combating desertification and erosion. With the wide-ranging projects we have implemented, we are working towards a greener, cleaner, and more livable Turkey and world.”
President Erdoğan also noted that the Zero Waste Project, spearheaded by his wife Emine Erdoğan, has been a turning point in this process. He mentioned that the project, conducted with the slogan “Our World, Our Common Home,” has received five international awards, three of which are from United Nations offices and programs.
