Zero Waste
During the beach and underwater cleaning conducted in Amasra, the "pearl of the Black Sea" in Bartın, a large number of car tires and various waste were retrieved from the sea.
As part of the "Zero Waste Blue" project aimed at protecting seas and water resources, the Coast Guard's Western Black Sea Group Command Diving Safety and Search and Rescue Teams (DEGAK) conducted waste collection operations with four diving teams at the Amasra Big Harbor location.
The teams, equipped with mesh bags, dove into the sea and, after approximately two hours of work, retrieved ten bags of waste materials, including numerous vehicle tires, a vacuum cleaner, plastic bottles, nylon bags, glass, and fishing nets.
Additionally, a beach cleanup was carried out with the participation of the Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urban Planning, the Provincial Directorate of National Education, various members of civil society organizations, citizens, and 40 students.
The waste collected from the sea was transported to a solid waste area by Amasra Municipality garbage trucks.
The goal is to create environmental cleanliness awareness
Bartın Governor Sinan Güner stated to reporters that they were conducting beach and underwater cleaning in Amasra.
He expressed that they aimed to foster environmental awareness among citizens through this event and urged everyone to be sensitive to environmental cleanliness. He stated:
"It is essential for us to keep our waters and environments clean in the modern age. We are here to support this and raise awareness. This is not just a few hours of activity; it is a way of life, an education, and a culture of the environment. We want to emphasize that even a piece of paper in someone's hand, which we now try to avoid calling trash, has value. Through the Zero Waste Project, we want to convey that nothing is waste, everything can be reused, and every item contributes to energy and the economy."
