Zero Waste
The exhibition titled "Let's Get to Know the Sea" by underwater imaging director Tahsin Ceylan was opened at the main service building of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change. Following the exhibition opening, Tahsin Ceylan gave a conference on marine species, marine pollution, and underwater photography.
Underwater imaging director Tahsin Ceylan stated, "A significant amount of the air we breathe and more than half of the raw materials used in the medications we take come from the seas."
A conference titled "Let's Get to Know the Sea" was organized by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change to raise awareness.
During the conference held in the ministry's meeting room, Ceylan provided information about Turkey's marine ecosystem. He reminded the audience that Turkey is connected to the Mediterranean ecosystem and is home to approximately 17,000 species. He noted, "In our country, surrounded by seas on three sides, there are only 150,000 divers. In Austria, which has no coastline, this number is 750,000."
Ceylan emphasized the importance of the sea for human life, saying, "A significant amount of the air we breathe and more than half of the raw materials used in the medications we take come from the seas."
He highlighted that plastic and domestic waste in the seas are causing significant harm to the ecosystem and pointed out that the ministry's "Zero Waste Project" is crucial for reducing marine pollution.
Ceylan warned that if marine pollution in Turkey is not addressed, species will face the threat of extinction.
Following the conference, an exhibition featuring Ceylan's underwater photographs was inaugurated.
