Zero Waste
Emine Erdoğan, in her speech at the World Bank Climate and Development Leadership Award Program held in the garden of the Presidential Complex State Guesthouse, expressed her gratitude for the award, stating, "I accept this highly meaningful award on behalf of all nature lovers who have united for our children to have a fair future. I would like to extend my thanks to the World Bank Turkey Office."
Emine Erdoğan stated that climate change is no longer just an environmental issue, but a global crisis that deeply affects the development and welfare of countries, creating significant future concerns for humanity. She noted that, like the rest of the world, Turkey is also feeling the negative effects of climate change in its region.
Emine Erdoğan emphasized, "We are at a critical juncture globally in the fight against climate change. As Turkey, we approach this crisis with the awareness that the world is our common home."
She conveyed that combating climate change is a multi-dimensional and multi-faceted field, stressing the need for transformation across various sectors such as transportation, trade, industry, agriculture, and health to achieve the set goals.
Promising to contribute to the 13th sustainable development goal, Emine Erdoğan selected the "Climate Action" target in a model of the world titled "Our Common Home," prepared by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. She pledged, "I will contribute to our country's policies on combating and adapting to climate change within the framework of the 2053 net zero emissions and green development goals," and signed the model.
After the ceremony, Emine Erdoğan took separate photos with participants and journalists in front of the model.
When asked by journalists if she anticipated this level of success when starting the project, she replied, "I never imagined that I would achieve such results. I didn't do this for the sake of receiving an award. These are extras. I received this award on behalf of my country, my nation, and the academicians and environmentalists who prepared the infrastructure."
In response to a question about whether they are still at the beginning, she said, "We have a lot more work to do, but I believe we can achieve this together. It is crucial for the youth to believe in this. We will hand over what we started to the young people, and they will carry it on, God willing."
When asked if she had a message for citizens regarding the Zero Waste Project and what can be done, Emine Erdoğan stated that the public has already embraced this initiative, saying, "I trust our people; they will surely do their best."
