Emine Erdoğan, who is in New York to attend the UN International Zero Waste Day special session, met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Emine Erdoğan, who arrived in New York to attend the UN's 30 March International Zero Waste Day special session, met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The meeting, held at the UN headquarters in New York, was also attended by Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Turkey's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Sedat Önal.

UN Secretary-General Guterres stated, "The Zero Waste Project is not just an environmental initiative, but a movement calling the world to act responsibly. Your contributions to the fight against climate change are invaluable; thank you very much."

Guterres emphasized the importance of Turkey's leadership, stating that the UN will announce its Millennium Development Goals in September and expressing his belief that the Zero Waste Project will make a significant contribution in this context.

He offered Erdoğan the presidency of the Advisory Board to be established in relation to zero waste.

Guterres highlighted that Turkey's support and efforts in all humanitarian matters are recognized, saying, "Please convey my greetings to my dear brother Erdoğan."

Emine Erdoğan expressed her belief that the Zero Waste Project would be a significant solution for environmental issues, noting that the UN serves as an important platform where countries can unite around zero waste.

She thanked the UN for its support following the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş that occurred on February 6, and invited Guterres to the UN-Habitat World Cities Day, which will take place in Istanbul on October 31.
