Emine Erdoğan, during her visit to the United States for the 79th UN General Assembly, met with Professor Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, the President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), at the Turkish House in New York.

Emine Erdoğan, who accompanied President Erdoğan to the United States for the 79th UN General Assembly, welcomed Professor Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, the President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, at the Turkish House in New York.

Jeffrey Sachs, during his meeting with Emine Erdoğan, signed the "Global Zero Waste Goodwill Declaration."

During the meeting, Sachs mentioned that they discussed the contributions that the Global Sustainable Development Solutions Network, which includes 2,000 universities from 150 countries, could offer to the "Zero Waste" project. He expressed admiration for Emine Erdoğan's leadership on this issue.

Sachs also emphasized that global development cannot be achieved without peace, noting the importance of Turkey's mediation efforts and initiatives for resolving conflicts, particularly in Ukraine and ongoing wars.

Following the meeting, Sachs signed the "Global Zero Waste Goodwill Declaration," which was opened for global signature at the 78th UN General Assembly in 2023, with President Erdoğan being the first signatory.

In a social media post following the meeting, Emine Erdoğan shared: "During our visit to the Turkish House in New York as part of the United Nations 79th General Assembly, we met with Jeffrey Sachs, Chair of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). We exchanged views on the momentum the 'Zero Waste' initiative can bring in achieving sustainable development goals. We discussed the contributions that Sachs’s network, which includes 2,000 universities across 150 countries, can bring to the project. We are in agreement that global development and a more just and inclusive future can only be achieved through collaborative efforts in a peaceful environment. I thank Mr. Sachs for signing the 'Global Zero Waste Goodwill Declaration' and for his support towards a cleaner and more livable world."
