Zero Waste
Emine Erdoğan, the wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, attended the opening of the "From Waste to Art" exhibition held at the Beştepe National Congress and Culture Center on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5th.
As part of the "Zero Waste Project" organized under the patronage of Emine Erdoğan, the exhibition features works by artists Adnan Ceylan, Murat Yıldırım Çakar, Murat Ilgar, and Asaf Erdemli, who create artistic pieces from scrap metal and dead cedar trees. In addition to the artists, the exhibition involved the participation of middle and high school students, where Emine Erdoğan celebrated World Environment Day with the youth by disposing of waste in prepared piggy banks, thus practicing the "Zero Waste" initiative. The event also included planting with children using compost fertilizers derived from organic waste. The "Zero Waste" initiative is being implemented throughout Turkey, primarily focusing on public institutions in Ankara, based on the principle of separating waste at the source. As part of the project, 15,000 public officials have received training, and a draft regulation related to the "Zero Waste" initiative has been prepared. Institutions such as the Presidential Complex, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, as well as the Prime Ministry, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), and TRT have officially adopted the "Zero Waste" initiative. Throughout the week, environmental events will be held at the Beştepe National Congress and Culture Center to commemorate World Environment Day. In this context, nature and environment discussions will take place on June 6, Wednesday, with Serdar Kılıç, and on June 7, Thursday, with Dr. Halit Yerebakan, involving middle and high school students.
