07 Sep 2018

Emine Erdoğan, the wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, visited the project area established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey as part of the Zero Waste Project, which is conducted under her patronage, to receive information about the ongoing efforts.

During the visit hosted by TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Turkey) President Binali Yıldırım and his wife Semiha Yıldırım, and attended by the Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, Emine Erdoğan toured the established waste center and received information from officials about the ongoing efforts of the project.

In statements to the press during her visit, Emine Erdoğan emphasized that the implementation of the Zero Waste Project in the TBMM has a symbolic significance. She stated, "If it is implemented in the representative institution of our nation, the goal of spreading it throughout Turkey will also accelerate," and highlighted the importance of parliamentarians being advocates for the project in their own cities.

SEPARATING WASTE AT THE SOURCE IS A MATTER OF AWARENESS

Emine Erdoğan thanked TBMM President Yıldırım, the administrative staff of the TBMM, and the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change for the implementation of the project. She expressed that separating waste at the source is a matter of awareness and a form of environmental sensitivity that contributes to the economy.

She pointed out the importance of producing compost fertilizer from organic waste, stating, "Organic waste beautifies our gardens instead of polluting the environment." Emine Erdoğan also mentioned that separating waste at the source, recycling, preventing resource waste, and conservation are prerequisites for protecting nature.

ZERO WASTE PROJECT

The Zero Waste Project, initially planned for implementation in public institutions and organizations in Ankara and then throughout the country, has been applied in the TBMM since June 12, 2018. Between June 12 and July 16, the assembly collected 19 tons of paper, 550 kg of glass, 942 kg of plastic, 147 kg of metal, and 2.8 tons of organic waste, sorted by type. The established system has facilitated significant recycling and savings to protect the environment and contribute to the economy.

The Zero Waste Project, coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, is effectively implemented in many public institutions in Ankara, including the Presidential Complex.
