Dell Has Initiated a Recycling Program for Tons of "Plastic Waste" Removed From the Oceans.

Dell Technologies has launched a significant recycling campaign for millions of tons of plastic waste entering the oceans each year.

Each year, millions of tons of plastic waste pollute the oceans, threatening marine life, and plastic usage is still far from ideal levels. To reduce plastic waste, Dell is collaborating with TURMEPA in Turkey to carry out coastal cleanup and awareness campaigns, contributing to global sustainability goals. Dell has reported that it has achieved 75% of its 2020 goals and even exceeded some targets, making significant progress ahead of schedule. Through the "2020 Legacy of Good" plan, introduced in 2013, the company continues its efforts toward a sustainable future for humanity and the planet.

Studies show that 8 million tons of plastic are dumped into the oceans each year, with this amount increasing by 7% annually. Estimates indicate that 5 trillion pieces of plastic have already entered the oceans, and at this rate, by 2050, we could face a situation where there is more plastic in the oceans than fish. Dell aims to combat this pollution through its global recycling campaign. By using plastic collected from beaches, waterways, and coastlines in packaging for some of its products, the company has managed to prevent over 7 tons of plastic from entering the oceans.

Operating in a sustainable office structure in Turkey, Dell has partnered with TURMEPA to protect coasts and oceans as a national priority, organizing coastal cleanup and educational events involving all its stakeholders. Plastics gathered from oceans and shorelines have been used in packaging and protective materials for XPS 13 laptops. As part of an agreement with the United Nations, Dell has committed to increasing the use of ocean plastics in its products tenfold by 2025.

To date, Dell has recycled over 1 million tons of used electronics and has incorporated more than 45,000 tons of recycled plastic and other sustainable materials into new Dell products. The company has also reduced wastewater by 4.56 million cubic meters in production and lowered the energy intensity footprint of its product portfolio by 64%. Additionally, Dell has provided 5 million hours of volunteer service, mentored students, and supported new nonprofit technology solutions as part of its awareness initiatives.
