Zero Waste
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan celebrated the "30 March International Zero Waste Day," declared by the United Nations General Assembly.
In a post on his social media account, President Erdoğan stated, "I congratulate the 30 March International Zero Waste Day, declared by the UN General Assembly as a result of our efforts. Under the leadership of my esteemed wife, Emine Erdoğan, we will continue our determined path of the 'Zero Waste Movement,' which has now become a global brand."
President Erdoğan also shared data regarding the "Zero Waste Movement," which was initiated in 2017 and has spread globally.
According to this data, since the start of the movement, zero waste training has been provided to 19 million people, resulting in a savings of 572 million cubic meters of water and the collection of 180,000 tons of marine debris.
The use of plastic bags has been reduced by 62.5%, and the emission of 31,500 tons of greenhouse gases has been prevented. Additionally, 164,000 buildings and settlements have been transitioned to the Zero Waste Management System.
The "Zero Waste Movement" has led to an economic gain of 62.2 billion Turkish lira.
The recycling rate, which was 1% in 2002, has increased to 27% in 2022, with a goal of raising this rate to 35% by 2023.
